Guide to the Wastelands of Flushing River, Queens, New York City
2010
Short description / A guide was produced to twelve wasteland sites in Queens, New York City. The publication included places from the source of the Flushing river beneath the Grand Central Parkway Expressway, north to Flushing Bay through several areas marked by landscaping legacies of the 1939 and 1964 New York World’s Fairs. Encompassing intertidal marshlands, junkyards, the former location of Flushing Airport, and a proposed waterfront promenade, the sites were frequently found to have suffered from widespread contamination.
